Working on the new Rebuilding Together Peninsula site was a joy for us. We were able to help an organization, which does so much good throughout the Bay area, by developing a new site that improved their ability to interact with volunteers and donors. We worked with our design partner Michael Patrick Partners to create a site for Rebuilding Together, which is the nation’s leading nonprofit organization providing home repairs for low-income homeowners.
Imagery was vital for Rebuilding Together, as the repairs and enhancements they do for neighborhoods throughout the Bay area can most be appreciated when viewed. We integrated the photo sharing program Flickr in order to feature photo albums throughout the site.
As a nonprofit organization, Rebuilding Together relies heavily not just on donations but, too, on volunteers. In order to keep volunteers apprised of upcoming events, Rebuilding requested an event calendar on the new site. We worked to create an interactive calendar that could be managed through FUEL CMS, the content management system on which the site was built. Through FUEL, users are now able to create “featured” events and add, edit and delete events. The site also features volunteer forms to enable users to easily request more information about the organization and its volunteer opportunities.
To enable Rebuilding to more easily collect donated items, we developed a wishlist page. Prior to the launch of the new site, Rebuilding Together had used Google documents to manage their wishlist. The new wishlist is set up as a page rather than a document and is easily managed through FUEL CMS.
The new site also features two password protected areas: one for volunteers and one for board members. For this project, Rebuilding Together requested that we develop an easily manageable password protected area. In the new site, Rebuilding Together staff members are able to add and delete new information quickly and painlessly and the organization structure was revised to be more user-friendly and straightforward.
