Lowell Observatory: Partnering for Long-Term Website Support

Daylight is honored to announce a new partnership with Lowell Observatory, the historic research institution on Mars Hill in Flagstaff, Arizona. Daylight will serve as Lowell’s ongoing web development partner, supporting and strengthening the observatory’s newly redesigned website and helping its team get the most from it.

Founded in 1894 by Percival Lowell, the observatory has been the site of some of astronomy’s most important discoveries, including Pluto in 1930 and the first evidence of the expanding universe. Today Lowell combines active scientific research with a thriving public mission. Its Mars Hill campus welcomes visitors to historic telescopes, the Giovale Open Deck Observatory, and the Marley Foundation Astronomy Discovery Center, home to an open-air planetarium under real Arizona skies. For many of those visitors, the journey starts on the website: planning a visit, buying tickets, and finding events.

Lowell launched its new website earlier this year, and Daylight’s work begins with a focused stabilization phase. We’ll make sure events, ticketing, and the event calendar work smoothly for visitors and staff alike, set up analytics so Lowell can see how the site performs, and bring every license, asset, and account under Lowell’s direct ownership. Just as important, we’ll make the site easier for Lowell’s own team to run. We approach every website as two sites: the one visitors see, and the one the team uses every day to keep it current. Both have to work. That means opening up areas that are hard to edit today and creating clear guides and tutorials so anyone on the marketing team can handle routine updates with confidence.

From there, Daylight will provide ongoing care, including security updates, backups, monitoring, and continued improvements, along with a monthly check-in to plan what’s next.

Lowell Observatory is one of the great scientific institutions in the country, and its website is often where someone’s sense of wonder about the universe begins. Our job is to make sure the site is dependable for visitors and genuinely easy for Lowell’s team to manage. A website should give a team more time for their mission, not less. We’re grateful for the chance to earn their trust and to support them for the long haul.
