CABBI: Boutique Hotels of California Launches a Redesigned Website

Boutique Hotels of California’s redesigned website is live. Designed by Paper Moon Creative and developed by Daylight, the site is a guide to California’s most inspired boutique hotels, each one independently owned, thoughtfully designed, and rooted in the culture and landscapes of the Golden State.

The launch completes the second phase of BHC’s digital evolution. Last year, Daylight brought the organization’s new brand to its existing website. This phase goes much further, redesigning and expanding the site with a new look, a richer content structure, live booking, and a foundation built for both traditional search and AI-powered discovery. Rather than starting over, Daylight extended the site BHC’s team already knew, building on years of content and search visibility.

Planned first, then built

Phase II ran in two parts. In the first, Daylight and Paper Moon Creative validated every technical decision before development began, finalizing the designs, documenting the data model, planning a search and structured data strategy, and mapping every URL. In the second, Daylight built, launched, and handed off the site. That upfront planning let the team build with confidence and launch on a clear path.

A new look, built on a flexible block library

The new design is powered by a reusable library of more than 40 content blocks across 14 page templates. BHC’s editors can mix and match blocks to tell richer stories, from hotel profiles and destination guides to special offers and travel features, all while staying true to the brand.

Content that connects

Behind the scenes, Daylight expanded how the site’s content fits together. Destinations are now a full content type of their own, organized from broad regions down to individual towns, so travelers can explore California at whatever level they like. Hotels are connected directly to their destinations, and hotel profiles have been expanded with richer details, amenities, and a “Why This Hotel Stands Out” section that tells each property’s story. In the Travel Journal, stories now link directly to the hotels they feature, so a reader inspired by an article is always one click away from a place to stay.

Booking, search, and staying in touch

The site connects directly to Book>Direct, Simpleview’s booking platform. Hotel information syncs daily, and booking searches started on BHC’s homepage or menu carry the traveler’s choices straight through to the booking site. Daylight built in a fallback so that if the booking service is ever unavailable, the page still loads without interruption. Each type of content also has its own search, filter, and sort tools, so travelers can quickly narrow down hotels, destinations, offers, and stories. A Mailchimp newsletter signup is built into the site and the Travel Journal, helping BHC grow its audience.

Built for search, and for AI

Travelers increasingly discover hotels through AI-powered search as well as traditional search engines. Daylight built the site for both. Every hotel, destination, special offer, and Travel Journal story includes structured data that helps search engines and AI tools understand what it is and how it connects to everything else on the site. Organization and website information is defined across the site, and breadcrumbs are generated automatically, so both visitors and search engines always know where they are. Together, these help BHC’s member hotels get found and recommended wherever travelers are searching.

Nearly a decade together

The launch is the latest milestone in a partnership that began in 2017, when Daylight built CABBI’s website. Today, Daylight supports Boutique Hotels of California, the California Hotel & Lodging Association, and the Sacramento Hotel Association through ongoing retainers.

This project brought together everything we care about: beautiful design from Paper Moon Creative, a thoughtful plan, and a build that’s ready for how people search today and tomorrow. We’ve been part of this organization’s story for nearly a decade, and this launch might be our favorite chapter yet. Huge thanks to Jenn, Jesse, Ranee, and the entire team.
