David Quisenberry crafts code as part of our backend developer team. He enjoys creating the behind the scenes magic that connects websites to outside data sources, internal databases, and builds the core functionality of parts of the user experience.
In a previous life, he had a career as a financial advisor, and you can still find him making investment recommendations and suggesting books to read for financial literacy.
What motivates you to succeed at your job?
I love building things and learning. Writing code that enhances a web site or application’s functionality scratches that creative itch. There are always ways to improve my code and new libraries and languages to explore. The learning never stops.
Where do you go to escape Portlandia?
Kansas City. Home of delicious baby back ribs, brisket, and burnt ends. The birthplace of Boulevard Brewery and where I’ve skinned my knees a bunch. Go Royals!
What is the most valuable tip you’ve received about your career?
Stan Weiner told me a long time ago to focus on the fundamentals of my craft. Don’t worry about being an expert on day one (you aren’t); instead, invest yourself in learning how to do whatever it is you are doing well. Expertise will come with experience, dedication, and time.
