David McReynolds heads up Daylight’s development team and is the lead developer behind our open source efforts. He’s been working in Web application design and development since 1999 which would make him an old timer in the office. “I feel fortunate that I’ve found a passion that also happens to be my job and I get to share it on a daily basis with some amazing people.” When David’s not working, he spends time with his wife and two girls, plays basketball and pretends to golf.
What is the most valuable tip you’ve received about your career?
I’ll never forget what the president of the company I previously worked for said to me right before I left to partner with Shawn. He knew that it was just going to be Shawn and I at the beginning working remotely and said “make sure you get out of your pajamas in the morning.” He said it half-jokingly, but it was the non-joking half that stuck with me all these years.
What is your favorite phone app?
Scramble. Yep… I’m one of those guys that still plays that game. Do you know how many words you can spell with just the letters “T”, “E”, “A”, “P”? The only person I play with is my mother. Jonathan stopped playing me a while ago because it was too easy for him (he’s freakishly good).
Favorite Portland eatery?
This is a pretty tough question because Portland is just an amazing Mecca of food and beer. It has the most breweries per capita and was ranked the best city for food carts in the world! We have a few “foodies” in the Daylight group which makes for a good eatery resource and are fortunate to have an office by several really great restaurants. One of my favorites is the quirky Portland landmark and Cajun bistro Montage which was a lunch staple for a while during the early days of Daylight and has the best mac & cheese lineup anywhere.
